Dear Aggie,
I have the worst allergies that seem to get worse and worse during this time of year when the weather changes from hot one week to cold the next. How do I keep up with classes and work when I’m constantly battling colds and sinus infections during this time of year?
Sincerely,
Allergy Season
Dear Allergy Season,
You’re not the only one suffering from inconvenient nose blows and coughs. Around this time of year, especially in Oklahoma, everyone’s eyes are watering and noses are dripping. This can either be caused by allergies or a minor cold. There are a couple of tactics to try to prevent sickness, and there are many remedies to keep it at bay.
If you think you’re getting sick due to a minor cold, try to intake as much vitamin C as you can. You may drink copious amounts of orange juice, or you can purchase Emergen-C which gives you a boost of vitamin C and also helps prevent sickness. You may also want to sip on some hot tea with honey if you feel a sore throat coming on. I recommend the Tazo Refresh tea which can be purchased at Starbucks or Wal-Mart.
Other ways to prevent sickness is eating right, exercising and sleeping well. Also, don’t eat or drink after any of your friends who are showing signs of sickness. If you or your friends begin to develop a fever, you should go see your doctor right away.
If you think you’re getting sick due to allergies, then invest in a good box of Puffs Plus Lotion tissues – your nose will thank you later. You will also want to purchase some quality allergy medicine such as Allegra-D, Claritin or Zyrtec. They’re a little on the expensive side, but if you want a quick fix then they will do the trick. There’s some off brand medicines similar to Allegra-D, Claritin and Zyertec that work the same and are cheaper. Some of these medicines can be added to your daily regiment to regulate allergies, but you should consult your doctor first before self medicating.
Sincerely,
Aggie
