The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program provides students the tools, training and experiences that will help them succeed in a competitive environment.

The program also allows students who would like to join the Army to obtain a college degree while they prepare for commission.
ROTC offers scholarships to high school, college and graduate students.

To be eligible for a four-year high school scholarship, candidates must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 17 and 26 who have high school GPAs of at least 2.50, as well as a high school diploma or minimum score of 920 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT.

According to cameron.edu, Cameron University ROTC is ranked in the top 15 percent in the nation and is the highest ranked program in Oklahoma.

Cameron University ROTC eligibility requirements differs slightly; for example, an individual cannot be a single parent or have a felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.

Cadet Beau Hughes, a sophomore business major who recently joined the program, said he must undergo an evaluation process before he receives the ROTC scholarship.

“They are not going to give me one till halfway through the semester,” Hughes said. “Scholarship is competitive; you have to know what you are doing.”

Cadet Jacob Clarke, an MSIV cadet who is studying criminal justice, said he receives a $5,000 room and board waiver as part of his scholarship.

“I live off campus and use the money to pay for my tuition and the rest for my rent.”
