Psi Chi hosted its first game night of the semester at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the MCC Ballroom.

Psi Chi is an international Psychology Honor Society for those who excel in Psychology. It emphasizes high performance, ethics and social responsibility. Tabatha Kizzar, a freshman Psychology major and chair for the Activities Committee of Psychology Club, said the organization was motivated to host a game night to raise interest in its new club.

“The Psychology Club and Psi Chi are fairly new to the campus, and not many people are aware that we are here,” Kizzar said. “So we really wanted to get our name out with something fun that everyone can do, whether you are laughing at yourself or other friends who you have dragged here.”

Both “Rock Band” and “Just Dance” were available for students to play, with “Rock Band” proving to be the more popular.

Juan Martinez, a junior Psychology major and attendee of the game night, expressed his excitement for the event.

“I’m having a good time; I like what they’ve done with this. It’s amazing,” Martinez said. “I’m going to drop it like it’s hot.”

Rebecca Selstad, a member of Psi Chi and a senior Psychology major, said the honor society came up with the event through many meetings and shared interests.

“We just did a lot of brain storming,” she said. “We got an activity committee together this year, and it was just a bunch of us trying to come up with ideas. We did know a bunch of us had ‘Rock Band’ sets, and we thought that would be popular with college students and that it would be a lot of fun.”

Selstad said a break is sometimes needed in day-to-day college life.

“I think everybody just needs that time to get everything else out of their heads and have fun and meet new people,” Selstad said. “Listening to music and playing video games does a lot for that.”

By the end of the night, Selstad was amused at the popularity of the event.

“I’m actually excited,” Selstad said. “Our pizza was just ravaged. I’m glad that people are here, and they are happy, and they are having fun.”

After the success of the “Rock Band” and “Just Dance” game night, Kizzar is already looking towards the future.“

“Next semester we will be doing a tie dye event, and we just recently sold cookie dough to raise money for people to go to different things like SWPA, different conventions, that way we don’t have to pay out of pocket,” she said. “The campus will be seeing a lot more of Psi Chi and Psychology Club as we get our name out there and let people know we are here.”
